Falcon Rebuild: Wizztronics Falcon replica boots

Milestone on the way to a new Falcon: The new motherboard boots in TOS 4.x for the first time. Wizztronics plans to sell new Falcon computers.

The “Atari Falcon Rebuild” project involves the design of a new motherboard with modern components, but also the familiar special chips from the last Atari computer. Wizztronics has a large quantity of these rare chips, so no FPGA chips are used. Legacy interfaces such as the ROM or DSP port are also included.

The manufacturer itself describes it as a modernized version of the Falcon. The prototype boards do not fit into a standard Falcon case and will be sold in limited quantities. Features such as a VME bus and USB are planned for the final board.

Two other projects that approach the Falcon from different angles should also be mentioned: Re-Falcon 030 is intended for Falcons with defective motherboards. The new motherboard fits into the standard case and could be the basis for further projects. Finally, a few weeks ago, the Suska IV B was released, an FPGA system with a Falcon-compatible core.
